  MEMBERS' WELL BEING

Please take a minute to go to this web site. It could help many of us in an emotional way.

Attention Retirees!
CopLine needs volunteers to work the lines! They have an upcoming training in September in New Jersey (a rare east coast training) Hard but rewarding training- won’t you give it a try?
Any questions, I may be able to help or at least get an answer for you!!
CopLine – http://www.copline.org/ – is a non-profit organization and we are looking for retired police officers who are interested in volunteering with an international hotline for law enforcement officers. We assist police, deputy sheriff, highway patrol officers both active duty and retired as well as their family members in times of need. If callers seek mental health support then we provide them with referrals to vetted professionals.
CopLine is a 24/7/365 hotline that only retired law enforcement officers are allowed to operate and our program is always in need of additional officers who would be willing to assist on the hotline. Our volunteers are from various ranks and agencies from across the country who still maintain a “servant’s heart”.
This is a great opportunity to give back to those still wearing the badge and serving our communities. I cannot think of a more satisfying call to take than one from a fellow officer experiencing difficult moments who oftentimes has no one to turn to. CopLine is confidential hotline and most callers often remain anonymous.
All potential candidates are trained in active listening. The classroom training (40 hours) is at no cost to the volunteers and our lead instructor is a police psychologist from LAPD Behavior Science Services. Our next training will be held at the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office in Monmouth, New Jersey on September 7-11th. Potential volunteers can go to the webpage and click on Volunteer in the upper right hand corner, then click on the LINK to complete a mandatory questionnaire.
If anyone has any interest in seeking volunteer work please reach out via our website at https://www.copline.org/volunteer If anyone has any questions feel free to contact Jim Alvarez (LAPD Retired) at jalvarez@copline.org

THERE ARE MANY OF US OUT THERE WHO ARE AILING WITH A PROBLEM OR TWO AND THAT INCLUDES SOME MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILIES. THEY ARE POSTED HERE AND KEPT FOR A TIME THEN REMOVED, BUT, DO NOT FORGET THEM, WRITE DOWN THEIR NAMES AND NUMBERS AND CONTACT THEM OFTEN TO LET THEM KNOW THEY ARE STILL IN YOUR THOUGHTS.

PLEASE KEEP THEM IN YOUR PRAYERS AND DROP THEM A NOTE/E-MAIL.
I AM SURE THEY WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Brothers and Sisters: The Retired Association has received offers from both active and retired members to assist any member in need of assistance with food or supplies. Don't be shy. Please email or call the Retired Association if you need help or if you know of any member who needs assistance.

The below was written about Bro. Russ Caudell Russ Caudell. It was written by his wife Mary Caudill, Russell 8411 Woodside Ct Owings, MD 20736 301-455-7954 rcau5910@aol.com
Just need to share some thoughts today. Sitting here reading Facebook instead of getting ready for our trip on Sunday. I’m reflecting over the last 5 years since “the stroke”. How have I been able to do this? I have no idea…other than I’m an Irish catholic girl.
I’ve had few respites in those 5 years, and currently in need of one now. You know, I can handle just about any of the physical challenges of a full-time caregiver but his mental issues that accompanied his stroke and then his Parkinson’s is kicking my butt. It’s no joke, my friends. Really…no joke. This man of mine was a brilliant and active man…able to do anything. But each day he forgets even the most fundamental things in life. I won’t go into the details. But in his mind he still can do anything and often gets into difficult situations
We have lost contact with friends, life goes on for them to enjoy. (Not complaining..it is what it is) But then he doesn’t remember a lot of them. He doesn’t communicate well on the phone, one because his hearing is impaired, and two he suffers from dysphasia/aphasia. Dysphasia, also called aphasia, is a language disorder that occurred when he had his hemorrhagic stroke. It affects how he speaks and understands language. People with dysphasia might have trouble putting the right words together in a sentence, understanding what others say, reading, and writing. That’s Russ. Some days he’s clear as a bell, other days not so much. He tends to tell you what he thinks you want to hear because he really didn’t understand what you asked or he doesn’t want to appear stupid.
Well, thanks for reading my post, if you were able to read it through to the end. If you’re in Calvert County we’d love to meet up with any of the old guard. The more interaction he has with others (other than me…lol) the better he gets.

LONG-TERM HOSPITALIZATION and REHAB

  From Jimmy Stewart: 5-28-20
Hope you are doing well. I successfully contacted KC Brown last week. The 10-40 you gave me is his residence in Accokeek and I spoke with his wife Billy Jean. KC is currently an in-patient care at the Restore Health Rehabilitation Center, 4615 Einstein Pl, White Plains, MD 20695 (240) 448-2000) and they of course don’t allow visitors at this time. He suffered a stroke a few months ago but is in good spirits and recovering.
KC wanted me to give you his cell phone number, and his OK for you to give it out. He’s on: 240 448-2054. He sends his regards and best wishes to everyone. We spent a little while reliving those “...Thrilling days of Yesteryear…” I’ll be checking with him at least weekly and will let you know of anything changes.
